PLAYER OF THE GAME
Jon Ekey, Illinois. The Illinois State transfer looked comfortable against his former Missouri Valley foe. The fifth-year senior dropped a season-high 19 points aided by five three-pointers.
The Illini guards combined for 30 points, 20 rebounds and nine assists while limiting Walt Lemon to 12 points on 4-for-15 shooting.
Ekey remained consistent on the boards with seven, and Nnanna Egwu remained consistent with his scoring, pouring in exactly 10 points in all four games.
Freshman Jaylon Tate improved his assist-to-turnover ratio to 17:3 with six assists and one turnover Sunday. His high school teammate, Kendrick Nunn (eight points, four boards, three assists), had his best game.
The defense, particularly in the first half, was stellar for the Illini as they continue to take care of business against their overmatched early-season competition.
