Illini back in Top 25

CHAMPAIGN — For the first time in close to a calendar year, the Illinois basketball team finds itself in the Associated Press Top 25. After starting the Big Ten 2-0 with home wins against Indiana and Penn State, John Groce’s Illini (13-2, 2-0 Big Ten) checked in at No. 23 in the latest AP poll released on Monday, their first appearance in the Top 25 since being ranked 23rd the week of Jan. 14, 2013.

The Illini’s first test as a ranked team will come on Wednesday with a trip to Madison to face fourth-ranked Wisconsin (15-0, 2-0).

Illinois is one of five Big Ten teams appearing in the poll this week, joining No. 3 Ohio State, Wisconsin, No. 5 Michigan State and No. 20 Iowa.

Here’s a look at the complete AP poll followed by the ballot The News-Gazette’s Marcus Jackson submitted this week.
