Illini grade vs. Wisconsin: D-
Player of the Game
Wisconsin’s Ben Brust
Senior guard gave his homestate school plenty to consider. Like: why isn’t he playing in C-U? Good question. He had 18 early points, including four three-pointers, as the Badgers built a 30-point lead. Yikes.
Illinois B, Wisconsin B+
Too bad Joseph Bertrand’s stellar performance is going to be lost because of the Badger blowout. It happens. Rayvonte Rice will be looking forward to another game in Madison during his senior year. Good personal numbers mean little when the score turns ugly in a hurry.
Illinois D, Wisconsin A
The folks in Madison are worried about losing Sam Dekker to the NBA early. And they should be. The sophomore looks like he is ready to play for pay. Frank Kaminsky made life miserable for the Illini big guys.
Illinois D+, Wisconsin B-
John Groce’s reserves found out those rims are tight at the Kohl Center. Especially when you are playing there for the first time. Wisconsin piled up the points in the late going, clearing the bench and scoring their most in a conference game in almost 20 years.
Illinois D-, Wisconsin A
Is there any way for the Illini to decline future trips to Madison? Bad enough that the team got plowed again by the home team. Even worse to have former Illini golfer Steve Stricker sitting courtside wearing Wisconsin gear. At least he had an Illinois hat. Wisconsin is the Big Cheese of the Big Ten, the last undefeated team left.
