Player of the game: Shavon Shields, Nebraska
The son of All-Pro offensive lineman Will Shields blocked any chances for Illini to put together a winning streak, scoring a career-high 33 points. Big guy showed a soft touch, hitting 15 of 15 free throws.

Another rough night for Tracy Abrams, who missed all four shots from the field and finished with three points. If his struggles continue, Illini will have a hard time beating anybody.

Frontcourt

Nnanna Egwu stayed busy on the boards, yanking down a game-high 12. But the Illini defenders had no success against Shields. They fouled too often and did a poor job denying him the ball.

Bench
Illinois D, Nebraska D

Coming off the bench did not work as well for Jon Ekey the second time around. The senior missed 5 of 6 shots. And Joseph Bertrand’s scoring average continues to fall after a five-point game.

Overall
Illinois D, Nebraska B+

So much for an Illini winning streak. It doesn’t get any easier for John Groce’s team with Ohio State coming to town next. When do the golf and baseball seasons start?
