UI grade at No. 24 Iowa: A

Player of the game
Jon Ekey, Illinois

In a close call over teammates Rayvonte Rice and Nnanna Egwu. With the score tied in the final seconds, his 50th three-pointer of the season gave the Illini the victory. Good thing Illinois found a place for the Illinois State transfer. Any win against Iowa is a good one.

Backcourt
Illinois B+, Iowa C

The biggest story was the ineffectiveness of Iowa star Roy Devyn Marble. On Senior Night, you would think he would go nuts. But he struggled with his shooting. He should have watched Kendrick Nunn, who found the baskets to his liking.

Frontcourt
Illinois B+, Iowa B

Egwu came up big both with his scoring and rebounding. And he seemed to get in to the heads of the Hawkeyes with his defense. Aaron White would have liked to end his career on a better note.

Bench
Illinois A, Iowa B

Ekey wasn’t the only senior to come up big. Joseph Bertrand scored six points and pulled down two rebounds. Hawkeyes needed more help from the subs.

Overall
Illinois A, Iowa C

What an answer for John Groce’s guys after the blowout loss to Michigan. And what a devastating loss for the Hawkeyes, who were looking for a Big Ten tournament bye.
