Thomas will officially visit Illinois

Elijah Thomas is one of the most coveted high school basketball players in the Class of 2015.

And in roughly seven weeks, the Texas native plans to officially visit Illinois.

The five-star center, who shined last winter at Lancaster (Texas) High School outside of Dallas while helping the Tigers finish 31-5 last season, will take an official visit to Illinois the weekend of Sept. 19, ESPN's Jeff Goodman reported Monday morning, a week after he officially visits Oklahoma State.

The 6-foot-9, 230-pound Thomas is ranked the 11th-best player in the upcoming senior class, according to Rivals. He counts Illinois, Oklahoma State, Texas, UNLV, SMU and USC among the main schools vying for his services.

He is the second official visit Illinois will have this fall after Oklahoma native Shake Milton announced on Sunday Illinois is one of his final four schools. Milton is planning to make visit to Illinois early in October.

Illinois already has two commits in the Class of 2015 with Chicago Simeon wing D.J. Williams and Plainfield East shooting guard Aaron Jordan, and the Illini have three scholarships remaining for the class.

He sounds pretty good, but it's just a visit and the Gazoo cheerleaders fall all over each other to gush and make it seem like he's coming to join a long line of blue-chippers. I'm sure the kid is quite capable of calling a bogus news conference to play silly games with hats.

You have a phenomenal ability to extrapolate things from articles that no one else sees. Where any other person with a functioning brain would see a rote, cut-and-dry news report of a prospect making an official visit to the school this website specifically covers, you see breathless cheerleading. It's remarkable, really.

Open letter to Moonpie:

Who are you? Are you a UofI grad, a flunkout, or a wannabe who didn't have the grades to be accepted?

I'll bet your wife/girlfriend (assuming you have one) must love the positivity that you bring to the household every evening when you come home from work (assuming you have a job).

Why not make some thoughtful comments as others do rather than your junior high-like name calling of the"Gazoo?" Can you do that? Back up your coments with facts, some thoughtful analysis that we all can ponder. That would be helpful.
