Male Athlete of the Year: Malcolm Hill, basketball

— The 6-foot-6 guard finished his senior season in the top two in nearly every statistical category for the Illini. He led the team in scoring and steals and was second in rebounding and assists.

— Hill's 17.2 points-per-game average saw him climb Illinois' all-time scoring leaderboard throughout the season. His 29 points in the Illini's NIT quarterfinal loss to Central Florida cemented him at No. 3 all time with 1,846 points.

— Not since Deon Thomas has an Illinois player finished his career with more than 1,800 points and 600 rebounds. Hill joined the program's all-time leading scorer in that elite group.

— In addition to making the top three on the career scoring list, Hill ranks in the top 10 in program history in seven other statistical categories.

— A second-team All-Big Ten selection by both the coaches and media, Hill got some national recognition, too, in the 2016-17 season. His 14 Game MVPs, per the KenPom ratings, tied him for eighth nationally.
