Illini grade vs. Marshall: A

Player of the game

Illinois forward Kipper Nichols

It was a good weekend for the redshirt sophomore. After putting up 16 points against DePaul — tying his career high — he set a new one with 17 points Sunday in the Illini's win against Marshall and added 11 rebounds for his first career double-double.

Backcourt

Illinois: A

Marshall: C-

The combination of Da'Monte Williams, Trent Frazier and Te'Jon Lucas held Marshall scoring leader Jon Elmore (and his 28.3 ppg average) in check as he shot just 2 of 11 from the field.

Frontcourt

Illinois: A

Marshall: C+

Nichols had the double-double, but Leron Black added 17 points and nine rebounds and Michael Finke was 3 of 4 from three-point range. They all filled their role.

Bench

Illinois: A

Marshall: D

Again, Nichols led the way here. But another do-everything type of game from Aaron Jordan (nine points, five rebounds and three steals) gave the Illini bench its now regular boost.

Overall

Illinois: A

Marshall: C-

Save for a stretch in the second half that forced Brad Underwood to call a timeout because his team's effort was coming into question, it was a solid all-around victory to keep the Illini unbeaten.
