Illini grade vs. Maryland: C+

Player of the game

Maryland guard Anthony Cowan

There was no stopping the Terrapins point guard in the first half. He was the catalyst for Maryland's big lead. And after a rough second half, he made the plays in overtime to give the Terps the win.

As tough as Cowan was to stop in the first half, so were Kevin Huerter and Justin Jackson. It was Aaron Jordan and Mark Alstork's turn in the second half and overtime to be the potent scorers.

Leron Black came on in the second half for the Illini as well, but Illinois was out-rebounded 34-25 overall, and seven offensive rebounds isn't nearly enough in Brad Underwood's eyes.

This game was almost solely about the Illini bench — especially considering Underwood pulled his starters en masse at the first media timeout. Jordan, Kipper Nichols and Trent Frazier all produced.

Even down 22 points at one juncture, the Illini had a chance to finish off the monster comeback. Self-inflicted mistakes — again — proved their undoing at the end of regulation.
