The 21st annual Big Ten men’s basketball tournament tips off Wednesday at Madison Square Garden in New York City. While fans’ expectations for Illinois may not be overly optimistic, the annual gathering of the conference’s teams has produced more than its share of surprises since the first tournament in 1998.

Former stars happy to get Hall call

CHAMPAIGN — Since last June, we've known Lou Henson will headline the next Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame class. On Thursday, the rest of the honorees were named.

Twenty-one in total, including Henson, representing 13 different sports and multiple eras.

CHAMPAIGN — After all the pregame angst, a call to show support for the controversial Chief Illiniwek symbol at Thursday's Illinois-Purdue men's basketball game was fairly uneventful.
