UI''s baseball team rolls
Brian Hecht pitched eight innings of six-hit baseball as Illinois won its third consecutive game, beating Kent State 12-4 at the Blue-Gray Baseball Classic on Sunday in Troy, Ala.
Todd McClure had three hits for the second consecutive game, and Kevin Rudden drove in six runs with two homers for the Illini, 4-6. Rudden homered in the sixth and eighth innings to support Hecht, who struck out four and allowed four earned runs.
Women''s tennis team falls.
Winning 4 of 6 singles matches, South Alabama beat Illinois 6-3 in women''s tennis Sunday at Atkins Tennis Center.
No. 3 singles player Liana Aguero and No. 5 Lindsey Bruce won for the Illini, who picked up doubles wins from Allison Gottlieb and Aguero.
The Illini were playing without sophomore Kara Loffelmacher, who suffered a foot injury earlier in the week.
"(The injury) really hurt us in doubles," UI coach Jennifer Roberts said. "We had to put two doubles teams on the court who hadn''t played before."
Illinois, 6-5 in dual meets, visits Michigan State on Saturday.
Men''s tennis team wins.
The No. 1 doubles team of Jerry Turek and Cary Franklin sparked the Illini, who beat Texas A&M 5-0 Sunday to finish third at the HEB Tennis Championships in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Turek also won a singles match for the Illini, who got doubles wins from Oliver Freelove and Jakub Teply at No. 3.
Gavin Sontag won at No. 1 singles, and Freelove won at No. 4. No. 6 Matt Snyder also recorded a win.
