Fink, friends find winning ways for Comets

Brandon Fink''s first-period pin gave Oakwood a lead it wouldn''t relinquish Thursday night as the Comets beat Hoopeston Area/Rossville-Alvin 48-34 in a prep wrestling match. After a pin by teammate Steven Hyde at 145 pounds to draw Oakwood within four points, Fink pinned Chris Kelnhofer in 1 minute, 39 seconds in the 152-pound match, giving the Comets an 18-16 lead. Joel Watson (160), Shane Watson (171), Coley Winslow (189) and A.J. Lape (215) followed with pins, sealing the deal. Chris Wilson (112) and Jeremy Wilson (125) also won by fall for Oakwood. Zach Crabtree (103), Jimmy Chism (119), Adam McCalla (135), Adam Linares (140) and Russell Johnson (heavyweight) had pins for the Cornjerkers. Linares won in 27 seconds and Johnson in 32. * Bismarck-Henning 53, Danville 23. The Vikings'' Phillip Shaw had the fastest pin of 13 seconds at 152, but the Blue Devils answered when five athletes in a row won by fall: Alex Bradfield (160), Jacob Campbell (171), Ben Jackson (189), Derek Hillery (215) and Ben Bradfield (heavyweight). B-H also got pins from Tyson Pearson (125), Nic Wright (140) and Chaz Tarkington (145). Danville''s Marc Carpenter (103), Donald Barbee (112) and Darius Dabney (145) also registered pins. * Argenta-Oreana 53, Westville 18. Kyle Haun (125) and Kylee Bott (140) won by pin for the host Tigers, but it wasn''t enough against the Bombers, who racked up six pins. * North Vermillion (Ind.) 54, Salt Fork 24. Keith Knoll (103), Michael McFetridge (130) and Ryan Thomas (189) scored pins for the host Storm. * At Clinton. The host Maroons rolled with 10 pins, all but one in the first period, in a 72-12 victory against Tri-City. Chris Miller pinned his opponent in 16 seconds at 171 pounds for Clinton, whose only losses were forfeits. In boys'' basketball: * DeLand-Weldon 57, First Baptist 52. Chuck Arnold had 21 points and 14 rebounds, leading the host Eagles in a nonconference game that was close all the way. Zach Ramage and Brandon Rost had 14 and 12 points, respectively, for DeLand-Weldon. Eric Johnson led Danville First Baptist with 19 points. Brandon Wasson added 14 points and Ben Hensold 13.
