Illini football assistant on Ball State wish list

Illinois assistant football coach Mike Mallory is among 8-10 potential candidates for the head coaching job at Ball State. Illinois coach Ron Turner said today Ball State has asked permission to discuss the opening with Mallory, who has coached safeties at Illinois for two seasons. New Ball State athletic director Bubba Cunningham is looking to replace eight-year coach Bill Lynch, who was fired after a 6-6 season. Lynch was 37-53 with the Cardinals. Among the reported candidates include Michigan assistant Brady Hoke, Ohio State assistants Bill Conley and Mark Snyder, and Wisconsin assistant Brian White. Cunningham hopes to hire a coach by Christmas.
