Levitt goes to town, leads Rantoul wrestling

Junior Robert Levitt gave up one point in three wins as Rantoul beat Salt Fork 53-21 and Charleston 45-41 and tied Oakwood 41-41 in prep wrestling Tuesday. Levitt had two pins and added a technical fall against Oakwood''s Jon Cope at 130 pounds. Tom Murray (103) and Mark Frandle (145) also picked up two pins each for the Eagles. * SJ-O 45, Westville 36. Nine of 10 contested weight classes ended with pins, and the visiting Spartans had six. Billy Gallo won his 119-pound bout in 31 seconds against Casey Elliott. Kenny Vera (112), Hal DeWeese (130), Ben Gorman (152), Casey Buss (171) and Josh Lindsey (heavyweight) also picked up pins for SJ-O. * Rockets lose two. Justin Blackburn (160) collected two pins as Unity dropped a pair of matches to Mattoon (60-24) and Effingham (43-21). Zach Weaver (215) and Chris Miller (275) had first-period pins for the Rockets, and Ben vonBrehren (103) also had a pin. * Mahomet-Seymour 42, Prairie Central 20. Junior Chris Kelly (119) pinned Ben Rudin in 1 minute, 23 seconds as the host Bulldogs won. Justin Ernst (112), Cory Falcon (125), Brent Johnson (135) and Matt Nowak (160) also had pins for M-S. Caleb Rathbun (171) and Tony Reis (189) had major decisions for Prairie Central (7-3). * Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 38, Clifton Central 31. Junior Danny Cloninger pinned his man in 28 seconds at 145 pounds for the host Falcons. Sophomore Brian Lange (119) and junior Dustin Arnold (189) also earned pins. * Clinton 70, St.Thomas More 6. The visiting Maroons (3-2) won all eight contested matches as Taylor Sickles (125), Joe Mandrell (160) and Geoff Hoyt (215) had first-period pins. Clinton''s Brad Wilson won 16-7 in his 189-pound bout. In girls'' basketball: * Paxton-Buckley-Loda 76, GCMS 65. Amber Rock had 18 points, 18 rebounds and five assists for the host Panthers (11-1). Emma Hanford led PBL in scoring with 21 points to go with her 15 boards, and Elissa McClure added nine points, 10 rebounds and three assists. Frannie Epps led the Falcons with a game-high 24 points. The junior also had 12 rebounds. Jessica Young scored 19 points and Danielle Kearfott chipped in 14 for GCMS (5-7). * Cerro Gordo 52, Arcola 25. Senior guard Deanna Morr finished with 20 points, six assists and three steals as the host Broncos rolled. Senior forward Rhiannon Beauchamp knocked down four three-pointers for 12 points and added six rebounds and six assists. Senior center Sara Gaitros scored 10 for the Cerro Gordo (8-1), which jumped out to a 29-9 lead at the break. Emily Yoder led Arcola with 10 points. * Urbana 43, Normal West 24. Jackie Williams scored a game-high 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds, leading a balanced scoring attack for the visiting Tigers. Katie Korder scored nine points, Jamie Mathis eight and Nicci Cooper seven to go along with four steals.
