Dear Olympians: Chantal Bailey

Chantal Cermak (Dunn-Bailey), a 1983 Centennial High School graduate, competed in the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway, in three long-track speedskating events. She placed as high as 22nd in the 3,000 meters. Cermak (Dunn-Bailey) now lives in Bemidji, Minn.

For me, it was a very surreal experience, so be sure and take a lot of photos and keep a journal to remind you. It passes like a dream.

The years that lead up to making the Olympic team provided my best memories as the two weeks at the Olympic Games go by so fast.

Collect autographs like a kid in a candy store. I wish I had but didn't want to seem like a pest. Be a pest! It will be a great thing to share with your children later in life.

Doors will open up for you to serve your community and the Olympic ideal. Walk through them and enjoy them. You will help others' dreams to come true.

Be sure to enjoy this like the amazing achievement that it is. Take it in and smile. Like they say, "Once an Olympian, always an Olympian." There are no past Olympians. This will continue to have an affect on you in every positive sense of the word even into your older years.

God bless,

Chantal Cermak (Dunn-Bailey)
