Illini Legends, Lists & Lore: Dennis Flynn
Celebrating his 54th birthday Monday is former Illinois football player Dennis Flynn. A product of Munster High in Indiana, he was the first athlete in his school’s history to be named all-state in two sports: football and wrestling. Flynn was an outstanding student as well, graduating in the top 5 percent of his class.
He was injury-prone as an Illini but won letters for coach Gary Moeller in 1977 and ‘78, then one for coach Mike White in 1981. Flynn played one year with the USFL’s Chicago Blitz. He was inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame in 2007. Flynn graduated from the UI in 1981 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, then continued his education in Champaign-Urbana, obtaining a master’s degree in 1984. He has been exceptionally successful as a member of the Chicago Board of Trade, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and the Chicago Board of Options Exchange.
Flynn is CEO of DT Trading and CEO of DT Fund Management. He and his wife, Gayle, established the Flynn Family Foundation Endowment Fund and endowed a football scholarship for the Illini program.
