Q&A: Adrienne GodBold

Adrienne GodBold
5-foot-9, Guard, Chicago Marshall

Averaged 14.9 points and 9.1 rebounds for Class 3A state champs. Ranked 36th by HoopGurlz, 101st by Blue Star. Picked Illinois over DePaul, Michigan State, Illinois State and Northern Illinois. She's the first Chicago Public League recruit signed by Illinois since Angelina Williams in 2000.

Tony Bleill's comment: GodBold has a terrific upside. When she's playing her best, she can control a game from the backcourt. Has the athletic ability to help Jolette Law instill an uptempo, fullcourt style.

Why did you pick Illinois?

Adrienne GodBold: I think they have a good team, it's a good school and I think I can make them a lot bet-ter.

What did you know about the University of Illinois and its women's basketball program before the recruiting process began?

AG: I really didn't know much. I just knew Coach Law, and she had been scouting me for a while.

Who has had the biggest influence on your basketball career?

AG: My coach, Dorothy Gaters. She's meant everything. She helps me out in a lot of dif-ferent ways, not only on the basketball court, but in class and all aspects of my life. That's what is so scary – I'm going from one Coach Gaters to another Coach Gaters (in Law). They have the same coaching style. Their attitudes – it's so similar that it's scary. They're great people.

Which of your basketball accomplishments brings the most pride?

AG: I did win a state championship last year with my high school team, and hopefully we'll be able to repeat.

Three words that describe your play on the court.

AG: Smart, hard, very phys-ical.
