MOUNT CARMEL — Tyra Buss, a Class of 2014 recruiting target of the Illinois women’s basketball program, is expected to announce her college destination Wednesday.
The high-scoring Mount Carmel High School junior guard is scheduled to issue a media release at 2 p.m. on two Twitter accounts — @tbuss3 and @TyraBussNews — to declare her oral commitment. Buss will not hold a news conference, according to Buss family spokesperson Ryan Jenkins.
The 5-foot-7 Buss entered this season with 2,146 points and is the fastest girl in state basketball history to score 2,000 points.
In 2010-11, the point guard set a state girls’ freshman scoring record of 1,025 points. As a sophomore, Buss scored the third-most points — 1,121 — for a single season in girls’ state history.
A source indicated Buss has narrowed her choices to three Big Ten schools — Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin — as well as nearby Evansville.
Buss did not attend the Illini’s season opener against Evansville on Nov. 11 at the Assembly Hall.
