Alison Bastianelli, a Class of 2015 middle blocker from Marysville, Mich., orally committed to the Illinois volleyball team.
The 6-foot-2 junior-to-be earned All-America honors in June at the AAU Girls’ Junior National Volleyball Championships in Orlando, Fla. Bastianelli helped lead the Legacy Volleyball Club to the AAU 16 Open title with a 13-0 record.
Last fall, the Marysville High standout was named to the Class B all-state second team by the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association. The two-year varsity starter finished the 2012 season with 326 kills and 132 blocks.
Bastianelli also was selected to the PrepVolleyball.com Soph 79, a list of the top 79 sophomores in the nation.
She is the third Class of 2015 player to commit to the Illini, joining setter Jordyn Poulter of Centennial, Colo., and outside hitter Beth Prince of Avon, Ind. Poulter and Prince earned Soph 79 honors as well.
