Illini soccer pads roster
University of Illinois women's soccer coach Jillian Ellis has signed seven prospects to national letters of intent.
The program's second recruiting class includes three players from Illinois, two from Virginia and one each from New Jersey and Texas.
"Although there's great talent in the state, I also wanted to bring in a nice blend," Ellis said. "Different parts of the country have different styles, and if you can attract different styles of players and blend them, it will give you a deeper team."
Signing with the UI were forwards Emily Brown of Winnetka New Trier and Missy Keeler of Medford, N.J.; midfielders Lindsey Johnson of Wauconda, Robyn Kenney of Herndon, Va., and Hollie Schurr of Arlington Heights Hersey; defender Heidi Holtzman of Lake Ridge, Va.; and goalkeeper Sarah Heggen of Allen, Texas.
Ellis may add other players in the coming weeks.
"When all is said and done, we're probably going to have nine or 10," Ellis said. "They're players that I think can take us another step to where we want to be, as far as being nationally competitive.
"Athletically, they're a very gifted class that will allow us to compete with some of the speed we've experienced."
Illinois went 7-10 last fall in its inaugural Division I season.
