EIU rallies past Illini in soccer

CHARLESTON – Trailing 2-0, Eastern Illinois' women's soccer team took only four shots against Illinois in the second half Wednesday.

That's all it needed.

The Panthers scored on all four shots, coming back for a 4-2 victory at Lakeside Field on the EIU campus.

Tracie Strother tallied twice for Eastern, once to tie the game and the final goal to ice it. Amy Koudelka and Shanna Hozman also found the net for the Panthers.

Illinois, which outshot EIU 25-6 for the game, dominated the first half.

The Illini got on the board first with when Lisa Baldwin converted a pass from Debbie Liang. They made it 2-0 on a goal by Kimberly Doetzel, assisted by Emily Brown.

It was the second straight loss for the UI after it opened the season with five victories in a row.

The Illini next play Valparaiso on Sunday at home before returning to Big Ten play Tuesday against Purdue.
