Big Ten honors Illini freshman

Illinois freshman midfielder Emily Brown became the first Illini soccer player to earn Big Ten Player of the Week honors Monday.

Brown earned the honor for a three-game spree in which she scored five goals and had two assists for 12 total points. Brown, who is tied with Lisa Baldwin for the team points lead at 33, has 13 goals and seven assists.

The Illini finished their regular season Sunday with a 4-1 victory against Oakland (Mich.) University. They play Friday in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament at State College, Pa., against top-seeded Penn State.
