Illini soccer selects assistants

Janet Rayfield and Missy Price were named assistant soccer coaches for Illinois' women's soccer team Thursday to complete coach Tricia Taliaferro's staff.

Rayfield was the head coach from 1993 to '98 at Arkansas. The Razorbacks won the SEC Western Division in 1996 and was a two-time conference tournament finalist. Rayfield played from '79 to '82 at North Carolina, where she was named an All-American and Nike Player of the Year in 1981.

Price and Taliaferro were teammates at Maryland. Price, an assistant at Virginia the last two years, will work primarily with the Illini goalkeepers.

As a senior at Maryland, Price's goalkeeping helped lead the Terrapins to the NCAA quarterfinals. She finished her career in 1997 as the school's career leader in shutouts with 13.
