Big Ten honor goes to Illini

Lisa Baldwin's three-goal weekend made her Illinois' all-time leading scorer and the Big Ten's first soccer Player of the Week.

The sophomore from Lindenhurst, N.Y., on Monday nabbed the conference's inaugural honor of the season after leading Tricia Taliaferro's Illini to a 2-0 start.

Baldwin scored one goal in last Friday's 3-1 win over Marquette and two more in Sunday's 3-0 win over Eastern Illinois. In the process, she passed Sarah Aberle as the UI's career leader in goals with 17.

"The team has given Lisa some great opportunities, and she had the composure to put them away," Taliaferro said.

Illinois, the only Big Ten team off to a 2-0 start, heads to Morgantown, W.Va., on Friday for the West Virginia Invitational.
