Four commit to UI

The Illinois women's soccer team added four recruits: Jennifer Smith, a midfielder from Tullahoma, Tenn.; Tiffani Walker, a forward from Bellevue, Wash.; Abby Goodman, a forward from Milwaukee; and Colleen Joyce, a midfielder who played at Johnsburg High School.

"When we started the program, we were looking for numbers," UI coach Tricia Taliaferro said. "Now, we're looking for quality players to fill specific roles. I'm happy to say we accomplished our goals successfully with this recruiting class."

Joyce, a junior, is a transfer from the University of Montana who led her team with eight assists last season. She was a second-team All-Big Sky Conference selection.

Walker scored a school-record 60 goals and had 144 points in her career. Smith holds school records with 59 goals, 30 assists and 148 points. Goodman's club team, the Milwaukee Kickers, was Wisconsin state champion in 1994, '95, '96, '97 and '99.
