If confidence is a key to a solid Big Ten season, the Illini women's soccer team gleaned plenty in an 8-0 home victory against Northern Illinois on Sunday.

Emily Brown started the carnage at 10:25 with an assist from Lisa Baldwin. She added another 15 minutes later.

In the 4-1 Illini's final tuneup before league play, Colleen Joyce (two), Sarah Rowland, Maggie Kellett, Tara Schuling and Mary Nitsche also punched in a score.

"Overall, we have a lot of weapons," coach Tricia Taliaferro said. "It has just been a matter of getting the chemistry so we can utilize them."

In women's golf:

- Illini 11th.

Renata Young's 77 in Sunday's final round of the Bay Tree Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C., guided her to tie at 17th. Teammate Laurin Kanda tied at 20th.

Illinois tied Iowa for 11th in a 31-team field, shooting a 938.

In men's golf:

- Lound solid.

Sophomore Geoff Lound shot an even-par 72 in Sunday's final round of the Badger Invitational at Verona, Wis., to lead the Illini to a ninth-place finish.

Lound tied for 17th, and teammate Tim Riley was 3 strokes behind to tie at 35th.
