The Illinois soccer team has set another first.

Tricia Taliaferro's bunch has its first national ranking, taking the 23rd spot in Soccer Buzz magazine's collegiate Top 25.

"I take it as a compliment, but our focus is just to do better than we did last year," Taliaferro said. "It's early. Hopefully, we will be able to live up to it."

No. 7 Penn State is the only other Big Ten team in the Top 25. The Illini are the No. 2 team in the Great Lakes Region according to the magazine, which had Notre Dame first, Purdue fourth, Wisconsin seventh and Michigan eighth.

Illinois will scrimmage at 7 p.m. Saturday against J.B. Marine. The season opener is Aug. 31 at Iowa State.
