DiBernardo up for soccer honors

CHAMPAIGN — One day after being named to the Hermann Trophy watch list, Illinois soccer player Vanessa DiBernardo was selected as a candidate for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award.

To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must be an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas: community, classroom, character and competition.

DiBernardo is one of 30 women’s soccer players up for the annual award, which also is presented to an NCAA Division I men’s soccer player. The Illini senior midfielder is a two-time All-American and a three-time first-team All-Big Ten selection.

DiBernardo is on the Hermann Trophy watch list for the third consecutive year. It is the highest individual award in college soccer. The female and male winners will be announced Jan. 10, 2014, by the sponsoring Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
