Weekly Planner: Illinois soccer

PRO

Philadelphia at Chicago Fire, Sunday, 4 p.m.

Until recently I didn't pay much attention to the Fire. Then they signed German star Bastian Schweinsteiger and I took notice. Add in the fact that they're in the MLS playoffs this season, and suddenly the Fire are a team worth watching.

ILLINOIS

Wisconsin at Illinois soccer,Thursday, 7 p.m.

The Illini have won back-to-back matches over Indiana and Northwestern. Last week the Badgers (9-3-2, 3-2-2) played the Hoosiers to a scoreless draw. Fans should feel good about Illinois' chances at Illinois Soccer Stadium on Thursday.

JUNIOR COLLEGE

UI Club team at Parkland men's soccer, Wednesday, 4 p.m.

Parkland (11-3, 6-1) rebounded from a loss with back-to-back wins last week. Wednesday's game against the Illinois club team will be the last chance for fans to go out and see the Cobras this season before the playoffs.

HIGH SCHOOL

Danville at Normal Community football,Friday, 7 p.m.

Danville clinched a playoff berth with its win against Peoria this past Friday, but is still trying to secure a first-round home playoff game. An undefeated Normal Community team awaits in what should be an entertaining Big 12 game.
