Hilbrands boots winner

CHAMPAIGN – Jordan Hilbrands scored on a feed from Laura Knutson in the 79th minute to help the Illinois women's soccer team to a 1-0 Big Ten victory against Michigan on Sunday.

Knutson delivered the ball with a header and Hilbrands beat a pair of Michigan defenders before firing it to the upper-right part of the goal. It was Hilbrands' first score of her collegiate career.

DeBruler, McCulley strong in Big Ten opener

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The 20th-ranked Illinois volleyball team bounced back from a first-set defeat and outbattled Indiana the rest of the way for an 18-25, 26-24, 25-22, 25-22 victory in the Big Ten opener for both teams Friday night.

"It was a big momentum match," Illini coach Don Hardin said. "In all of the Big Ten matches, everyone is going to want to protect home turf. We weren't ready out of the chute, but our players rebounded and fought hard to pull out this win."

ORLANDO, Fla. — The No. 18 Illinois soccer team held the advantage in shots and corner kicks but couldn’t find the net in a 2-0 loss to Central Florida on Sunday.

The Illini (4-3) lost their third match in a row, during which they’ve failed to score. Illinois outshot the Knights 16-10 and held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks. Central Florida (5-1-1) led in shots on goal 5-4.
