All systems go for Illini soccer

CHAMPAIGN – Senior Alexandra Kapicka stopped two shots for her third shutout of the season as Illinois beat Louisville 3-0 on Sunday in its final Big Ten tuneup.

Megan Pawloski, Shayla Mutz and Marissa Holden scored for the Illini (7-1), who open league play at Minnesota next Sunday.

CHAMPAIGN – The shutouts are piling up for the Illinois women's soccer team. So are the wins.

The Illini improved to 6-1 Friday night with a 1-0 victory against Louisiana State at the Illinois Soccer and Track Stadium. The defensive battle was decided on Krystin Miller's penalty kick in the second half.

Soccer rebounds with shutout

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Jordan Hilbrands scored her third goal in as many games, striking early in the second half to lift Illinois to a 1-0 victory against Yale.

Steph Panozzo and Alexandra Kapicka combined for the shutout in goal for the Illini, who fell 2-1 in double overtime to Connecticut on Friday.

Masar kicking it up a notch

Soccer had been good to her. No doubt about that. The former Urbana and Illini standout lived to play it, rarely spent longer than a day without touching a ball and never let the sport stray from her thoughts.

UConn hands Illinois first soccer defeat

STORRS, Conn. — The Illinois soccer team absorbed its first loss of the season when Jessica Shufelt scored 3 minutes, 8 seconds into the second overtime, lifting Connecticut to a 2-1 victory Friday.
The goal was Shufelt’s second of the match and third of the season.
Illinois (3-1) erased a 1-0 deficit when Jordan Hilbrands converted a corner kick in the 72nd minute. Marissa Mykines and Danielle Kot assisted on Hilbrands’ second goal of the season.

Illini Insider: Recruits in the news is reporting that Michelle Dasso's Illini women's team has received commitments from two high school seniors: Melissa Kopinski of Palos Hills Stagg and Julia Jamieson of Wilmette Loyola Academy. Kopinski placed fourth in singles at the 2009 IHSA state tournament. rates Kopinski as a blue chip five-star recruit and ranks her No. 23 nationally in the Class of 2011. Jamieson, a four-star recruit, is ranked 59th in her class. Kopinski is the twin sister of UI men's commitment Tim Kopinski, a four-star recruit from Stagg.
