Gay fires no-hitter

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — Pepper Gay threw the 10th no-hitter in Illinois history as the Illini knocked off Northern Iowa (8-0 in six innings) and Green Bay (6-3) to end the UNI Dome Tournament with a 3-2 mark.

Gay had two strikeouts and allowed only one base runner (on an error) in her no-hitter. Kylie Johnson and Jess Perkins drove in two runs apiece.

Brittany Sanchez had three RBI against Green Bay, and Shelese Arnold threw 5-plus innings of four-hit relief to earn her first win.

Wrestlers notch road win. Caleb Ervin (149 pounds), Jordan Blanton (174) and Tony Dallago (184) won their matches by major decision to lead the Illini wrestling team to a 24-10 victory Sunday at Northwestern. Jesse Delgado (125), Daryl Thomas (133), Conrad Polz (165) and Mario Gonzalez also won for No. 8 Illinois.
