Illini women finish second

   The Illinois swimming and diving team finished second at the UC Irvine Relay Invitational, setting three meet records.

Illinois diver hits her mark

   OXFORD, Ohio  Illinois diver Andrea Powelski placed sixth in 1-meter diving Saturday at the Miami Invitational. The Illini senior scored 220.70 points in her second finals in as many days.

   On Friday, the Franklin, Wis., native twice scored career bests en route to fourth place in the 3-meter event. Powelski totaled 406.65 points to place third in the preliminaries, then scored 414.95 in the finals.

Illinois swims to third as Dikmen sets record

   COLLEGE PARK, Md.  Sophomore Ilkay Dikmen set a school record in the 200-yard breaststroke as the Illini finished third at the Terrapin Cup Invitational on Saturday.

   Dikmen collected an NCAA ''B'' standard in the event, clocking 2 minutes, 14.69 seconds.

Aveyard, Dikmen lead way

   Aveyard, Dikmen lead way. Senior Jessica Aveyard posted an NCAA B'' standard in the 500 freestyle, winning the race in 4 minutes, 54.74 seconds Thursday at the Terrapin Cup Invitational in College Park, Md.

   Sophomore Ilkay Dikmen recorded the ninth-fastest time in UI history in the 200 individual medley, clocking 2:06.17 to take second.

UI swimmer Aveyard short of World finals

Illinois swimmer Jessica Aveyard reached the semifinals of the women's 200-meter backstroke today at the FINA World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, but fell short of the finals.

UI''s Aveyard quick to answer U.S. call

CHAMPAIGN – Under the circumstances, a mere thank-you doesn't seem adequate.

"Would it be weird if I send her flowers?" Jessica Aveyard asked.

If the Illinois swimmer chooses, she can hand-deliver a bouquet to Lindsay Benko. Maybe it's the least Aveyard can do for her U.S. teammate. After all, if it wasn't for Benko, the Illini senior-to-be wouldn't be in Fukuoka, Japan, next week for the FINA World Championships.

Dikmen makes World Championships

Illini Ilkay Dikmen was selected to represent her native Turkey at the World Swimming Championships July 22-29 in Sukuoka, Japan.

Swim relays take second

Two Illinois relay teams took second place as the women's swimming and diving team opened the Wolverine Invitational trailing Michigan and Notre Dame.

Illini victorious in swimming

Anna Christiansen and Jessica Aveyard won two individual events apiece as Illinois beat Michigan State 124-119 at the Rainbow Invite at Honolulu to even its Big Ten record at 1-1.

Illini Jessica Aveyard was named the co-Big Ten swimmer of the week for her performance last weekend at the Miami (Ohio) Invitational.
