Falkin, Kopinski lead win against Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Allison Falkin and Melissa Kopinski set the tone in singles as Illinois won at Ohio State 5-2 on Friday to even its women’s Big Ten tennis record.

Falkin (No. 1 singles) and Kopinski (No. 2) each won in straight sets to help the Illini kick off a weekend road trip in impressive fashion.

Misia Kedzierski and Rachael White also won singles and doubles matches for Illinois (11-9, 4-4 Big Ten).

Illinois, coming off an impressive win against Michigan State, improved to 10-1 when it wins the doubles point. The Illini visit Penn State on Sunday.

In men’s tennis:
Ohio State 4, UI 3.
At Atkins Tennis Center, the fifth-ranked Buckeyes rallied after losing the doubles point to stay unbeaten in Big Ten play (8-0).

Alex Jesse and Jared Hiltzik teamed for a 9-8 win at No. 2 doubles to put Illinois ahead. Hiltzik then knocked off ninth-ranked Blaz Rola 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1 singles, but the Buckeyes bounced back.
