NCAA tennis: Sara Seed checks in from finals
You know something major is going on with tennis when you see The Tennis Channel roll into town.
What is it? The 2013 NCAA men’s and women’s tennis team championship finals!
The teams have just finished warming up and the official welcome and introductions are about to take place. This is it ... a collegiate tennis team’s ultimate goal. I couldn’t help but get goose bumps as I looked out onto the courts, into the players’ eyes and listened to the amazing performance of our national anthem. All the 5:30 a.m. strength training and conditioning sessions; the 9 p.m. indoor practices on stroke and serve mechanics (so boring); the numerous and repetitious drills (just as boring), and the enormous amount of travel time by train, plane or automobile, where a lot of homework is completed and tests are given.
This is their Super Bowl, their Game 7, their major. Win or lose, this is the moment of a lifetime. And THAT is why you play the game. Any game, really. So you can create “the moment.”
