IOWA CITY, Iowa — Jocelynn Birks had 18 kills and libero Jennifer Beltran had 21 digs as Illinois maintained its mastery of Iowa with a 25-16, 25-21, 25-18 win in Big Ten volleyball Saturday night.
“We really came into it thinking about sticking together and executing and making sure that they didn’t get any runs, because we know how hard they work and how much they can come back,” Birks said.
Birks also had 11 digs and three blocks for her 21st career double-double.
“She’s a special outside,” UI coach Kevin Hambly said of Birks. “She’s one of the best point scorers and left-side blockers. She can do it all.”
Illinois’ wrestling team set its starting lineup Saturday after the squad held its wrestle-offs.
Winners included Zac Brunson (157 pounds), Nikko Reyes (184), Zane Richards (133), Tony Dallago (174), Jackson Morse (165) and Jesse Delgado (125).
In women’s tennis
Illinois tennis players Melissa Kopinski and Louise Kwong each remained undefeated in singles and doubles on the second day of the Midwest Blast in Urbana.
