Joseph earns track honor

CHAMPAIGN — Illinois senior Vanier Joseph was named Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.
Joseph won the 110-meter hurdles title for the second consecutive year at the Drake Relays.

Gosea feted. Farris Gosea, who went 6-0 at the Big Ten men’s tennis tournament, is Illinois’ latest Scholar-Athlete recipient.
Other nominees included baseball players Andrew Mamlic and Jason Goldstein, track and field athletes Cam Viney and Jesica Ejesieme, golfer Ember Schuldt, softball player Brandi Needham and tennis player Alexis Casati.

Top tennis players selected. Gosea and Casati were named team MVPs Wednesday night at the school’s tennis awards banquet.
Gosea was the squad’s first Big Ten Player of the Year since 2007 and a first-team All-Big Ten selection.
Casati is a team-leading 15-7 in singles.
