Silver for UI relay

   INDIANAPOLIS  The Illinois men''s 4 x 400 relay team took second in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday as the Illini finished 17th overall.

   The UI team of, from first leg to anchor leg, Chris Jones, Sherman Armstrong, Tyrone Jones and Matt Klima finished in 3 minutes, 8.75 seconds to earn All-America honors. Klima passed two runners in his anchor leg to give Illinois the victory in its heat. Baylor, running in another heat, won in 3:06.38.

   "They really had an excellent race," Illinois coach Gary Wieneke said.

   The UI''s Bobby True did, too. He took third in the 800 in 1:49.16. Defending champion David Krummenacker of Georgia Tech won in 1:47.52.

   Illinois finished with 14 points. Arkansas won with 56.

   "It was a great day for them and the Illini," Wieneke said. "You go to a national meet, you never know. They did awfully well."

   For the UI women, Stacy Ann Grant took fourth in the high jump, clearing 6 feet, three-quarter inches. Benita Kelley was eighth in the 55 meters in 6.89, and the 4 x 400 relay took eighth in 3:38.79.
