Washington blazes to 100 win

Illinois signee Quincy Washington won the 100 meters and helped Champaign take the 4x100 relay Sunday at the USA State Championships track meet in Lisle.

Washington, who won the 200 in the IHSA Class AA state meet, ran the 100 in 10.85 seconds. James Benson was fifth in 11.35. Washington then teamed with Tyrus Corter, Chris Barnett and Benson to win the 4x100 in 43.1.

In the bantam girls' (9- to 10-year-olds) division, Champaign's Leslie Washington was fifth in the 100 in 15.0 and third in the long jump at 10 feet, 10 inches. Mahomet had three first-place bantam finishes, including Laura Jane Morris' state-record 4-3 in the high jump. Morris also won the long jump in 11-61/4 and participated in the winning 4x100 relay.

Other first-place finishes for Mahomet: pee wee girls' (8 and under) 4x400 relay; midget girls' (11-12) 4x400; Katie Eden in the intermediate girls' (15-16) discus; Lydia Morris in the intermediate girls' triple jump; and Andy Ellis in the intermediate boys' 2,000 steeplechase.
