Illinois junior Sherman Armstrong was named the Big Ten men's track and field athlete of the week on Wednesday.
Armstrong broke the school record in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking 7.82 seconds, an NCAA provisional qualifying time.
Armstrong also ran the anchor leg on the UI's 4x400-meter relay, which won the race in 3 minutes, 16.24 seconds.
"This is a well-deserved award for Sherman, who is just an outstanding competitor," UI coach Gary Wieneke said. "He had another exceptional performance over the weekend, which we've come to expect from him. Anytime he steps out on the track, we know that he's going to compete and give it everything he's got."
