Illini sprinter claims honor

Illinois junior Sherman Armstrong was named the Big Ten Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday after he won the 60-meter hurdles and was the top collegiate runner in the 200 dash at the Wisconsin Elite Invitational.

Armstrong, who has won the award twice this season, clocked 7.98 seconds in the 60 and 21.64 in the 200.

"It's just amazing what kind of competitor he is," UI coach Gary Wieneke said of Armstrong, who broke his school record in the 60 hurdles in early January.
