Oshinowo honored

Illinois' Ade Oshinowo, a Waubonsie Valley product, was named a 2000 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award Winner.

Oshinowo, who competes in the shot put, weight throw and discus, earned first-team distinction for women's track and field and cross-country athletes.

Recipients were announced in Black Issues In Higher Education magazine and were chosen based on academic and athletic achievements.

Oshinowo, a junior, is enrolled in the honors biology program and has a 3.8 grade-point average.
