Illini speed to nationals
AUSTIN, Texas — The Illinois track and field teams are going to be busy at the NCAA Championships.
On Saturday, Andrew Riley led the parade to Des Moines, Iowa, by qualifying in the 110-meter hurdles and helping the 400-meter relay team advance. Riley’s time in the 110 hurdles was 13.31 seconds, 0.02 behind Texas A&M’s Wayne Davis II.
The Illini’s 400 relay quartet, which also includes Stanley Azie, Brandon Stryganek and DJ Zahn, finished the event in 39.29, the second-fastest time in school history.
Azie also is moving on in the 200 in 20.79.
“We had another good day,” UI coach Mike Turk said. “I am very pleased with the guys. We have put ourselves in great position to push ourselves up in the team standings.”
