Illini qualify for nationals

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Illinois’ DJ Zahn, Joe McAsey, Cam Viney and Jesica Ejesieme qualified for the NCAA Track and Field Championships on Friday during the NCAA West Preliminary Round.

Zahn was timed in 45.82 seconds in the 400-meter run. McAsey was clocked in 1 minute, 49.02 seconds in the 800 and placed ninth overall. In the 400 hurdles, Viney was 11th overall in 50.75. Ejesieme finished fourth Friday in the women’s 400 hurdles, clocking 57.21.

The UI’s Vanier Joseph advanced in the 110-meter hurdles, posting a time of 13.71 and placing second in his heat.

Illinois’ Brandon Stryganek (20.92) was second in his heat in the 200 and qualified for today’s quarterfinal.

Illini Davis Fraker placed 13th overall in the hammer throw, tossing 201 feet, 8 inches.

In the 100 hurdles, Ejesieme was 10th overall in 13.64. She advanced to the quarterfinals after finishing second in her heat.
