Riley earns gold medal

GLASGOW, Scotland — Former Illini track and field athlete Andrew Riley made his experience in the 20th Commonwealth Games one he will always remember.

Riley earned his first major international victory by capturing gold in the event’s 110-meter hurdles. His time of 13.32 bested England’s William Sharman by four hundredths of a second.

Riley posted a time of 13.47 in the qualifying round to earn his spot in the finals.

A 2012 University of Illinois graduate, Riley competed for the school’s track and field program for four seasons. He is a four-time NCAA champion, including two victories in the 110-meter hurdles. Riley is also a 12-time All-American and 12-time Big Ten champion, including three top finishes in the 110-meter hurdles.
