Pratt, relays show Drake spunk

DES MOINES, Iowa – Illinois senior Bryan Pratt advanced to the finals of the 110-meter hurdles at Friday's Drake Relays. He had to share the spotlight with several teammates.

"We had a great day in terms of weather and were able to take advantage and show some improvement," UI coach Wayne Angel said.

Bill qualifies for regional

DES MOINES, Iowa – Illinois senior distance runner Jason Bill qualified for the NCAA regional on Thursday in the 5,000-meter run at the Drake Relays.

Bill finished with a time of 14 minutes, 8.67 seconds, nearly four seconds faster than the qualifying time.

Houseworth stands tall in final

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Jon Houseworth's first chance to compete at the Kansas Relays was a memorable one.

The Illinois senior won the men's 3,000 steeplechase Friday in the 80th edition of the prestigious event.

DiSilvestro's last meet can't live up to hopes; Mensah shines

CHAMPAIGN – Eric DiSilvestro didn't have high hopes for Sunday's Illinois Invitational at the UI Track and Soccer Complex.

Competing in his last home track meet, the senior pole vaulter, who once finished second at the Big Ten Indoor Championships and dreamt of competing at this year's NCAA Championships, would be happy if he could vault at all.

Houseworth captures crown at Eastern

CHARLESTON –Jon Houseworth won the 1,500-meter run Saturday at the EIU Big Blue Classic in 4 minutes, 1.95 seconds.

Houseworth, a senior from Carlock, outpaced the next- fastest competitor by three seconds. Freshman Tim Entwistle, a Buffalo Grove native, was fourth for the Illini.

Weather cancels women's golf tournament

URBANA – It took just an hour for Friday's cold weather conditions to force cancellation of the Illini Spring Classic women's golf tournament.

Coach 'speechless' after finish at Big Ten gymnastics meet

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Senior Cara Pomeroy led the Illinois women's gymnastics team to its highest Big Ten Championships finish in 17 years Saturday by winning the uneven bars.

The No. 21 Illini placed third with 195.250 points, trailing champion Michigan and Penn State. It was Illinois' highest finish in the league meet since winning the 1990 Big Ten title.
