STUTTGART, Germany – Two former Illini women's hurdlers placed in the top four Sunday at the IAAF World Athletics Final.

Wieneke gets Hall of Fame nod

CHAMPAIGN – Former Illinois coach Gary Wieneke was among 12 coaches named this week to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Wieneke and the rest of the Class of 2006 will be inducted Dec. 12 during the group's annual convention in San Antonio.

Carle's Mattoon surgery center plan to get a hearing

MATTOON – Carle Foundation Hospital's latest proposal to build an outpatient surgery center in Mattoon is headed to a state board for a hearing early next week.

And it continues to be an uphill battle for Urbana-based Carle, which already has a physician practice group in Coles County and is looking to expand its business in that area.

Hunt wants to cap collegiate career with crowns

INDIANAPOLIS – After months of dietary self-denial, no menu item was off limits to Cassie Hunt.

A "greasy" cheeseburger. A chocolate milkshake. Frozen custard. All were on the Illinois All-American's food tray Saturday at the Culver's restaurant on Kentucky Avenue. And all were hungrily consumed after Hunt's marathon-like track season finally ended at the USA Outdoor Championships.

Phelps ready to go distance for coach

CHAMPAIGN – Illinois men's track and field coach Wayne Angel on Tuesday announced the addition of nine recruits, including Monticello middle-distance standout Scott Phelps.

Including four other recruits signed last fall, the incoming class won a combined 10 individual state titles during their high school careers.

Hunt takes 10th in national meet

INDIANAPOLIS – Illinois' Cassie Hunt finished 10th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase final at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday.

Hunt finished in 10 minutes, 16.54 seconds, about 19 seconds behind winner Lisa Galaviz, who edged Kristin Anderson.

INDIANAPOLIS – Illinois junior Cassie Hunt is continuing her strong run on a national stage.

Hunt, who finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Championships, finished fifth in her heat Thursday at the U.S. Track and Field Championships and qualified for Saturday's final.
