Volleyball recruits earn top honors

Three future Illini volleyball players were honored after their performances in national tournaments this summer.

Incoming freshman setter Alexis Viliunas was selected to the USA Volleyball Junior National Championships all-tournament team in the 18 Open Gold division. The LaGrange Lyons graduate plays for the 1st Alliance Club's 18 Silver team, which finished sixth in the tournament at Columbus, Ohio.

Libero Julia Conard, another incoming freshman, earned All-America honors in the 18 Open division of the AAU Junior National Championships in Orlando, Fla. The West Chicago grad's Fusion 18 Black team tied for fifth place.

Middle blocker Katie Stadick, a Class of 2013 commitment, was an AAU All-American in the 17 Open division. The Watertown (Wis.) native led her Milwaukee Sting 17 Gold team to second place with a 12-1 tournament record.
