The Illini are ranked 23rd in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 poll, a drop of three spots from last week. The current poll was announced Monday.
Illinois (3-4) split two matches last week, defeating Cincinnati and losing in five sets to then-No. 24 Louisville at the Big Ten/Big East Challenge in Cincinnati. The Cardinals (8-1), coached by former Illini assistant Anne Kordes, rose to No. 12 this week.
All four of the Illini's losses were to current Top 25 opponents, including No. 18 Pepperdine, No. 20 Dayton and No. 25 Iowa State.
The Illini have one win against a Top 25 team, Iowa State.
Nebraska (8-0) remained No. 1 this week, while fellow Big Ten member Penn State (7-1) fell two spots to No. 4 after losing to unranked Oregon State.
The Big Ten is represented by seven teams are in this week's Top 25. Besides Illinois, Nebraska and Penn State, the others are No. 10 Minnesota, No. 14 Purdue, No. 21 Ohio State, and No. 22 Michigan.
