Volleyball rises to No. 20

The Illini rose three spots, to No. 20, in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 poll. The weekly rankings were announced Monday afternoon.

Illinois (6-4) went 3-0 last week to win the Texas Invitational, a performance highlighted by a five-set victory against then-No. 6 Texas on the Longhorns' home court.

There was a change at the top of the poll, with UCLA (8-1) climbing one spot to replace Nebraska (8-1) at No. 1. The Cornhuskers, who fell to No. 3, absorbed their first loss of the season at then-No. 25 Iowa State.

For the second straight week, the Big Ten had seven representatives in the Top 25, although the identity of one of them changed. Michigan (12-2) was dropped from the rankings and replaced by Michigan State (12-0), which entered at No. 25.

Other Big Ten teams in the Top 25 were No. 4 Penn State; No. 12 Minnesota, which will visit Illinois on Friday for a Big Ten opener; No. 17 Purdue and No. 23 Ohio State.
