Birks voted All-Big Ten
Illini outside hitter Jocelynn Birks was a unanimous selection to the All-Big Ten volleyball team, the conference announced Tuesday.
The redshirt sophomore was one of eight unanimous choices on the 14-player team in voting by league coaches.
Illini right-side hitter Liz McMahon earned honorable-mention recognition.
The selection of Birks marked the sixth straight year that Illinois was represented on the All-Big Ten team.
The LaGrange Lyons High School graduate ranks fifth in the conference in kills per set (3.97) and points per set (4.51). In conference-only matches, Birks ranked fourth in kills (4.03) and points (4.60).
Birks also has produced eight 20-kill matches this season as well as 10 double-doubles (kills and digs).
McMahon ranked second among Illini in kills (3.11) and points (3.63) per set. The 6-foot-6 junior also was No. 3 on the team in blocks (90).
Birks and McMahon each received conference postseason honors for the third time. Birks was an honorable-mention choice last season as well as an All-Freshman team pick. McMahon was an All-Big Ten selection in 2012 and an All-Freshman team member in 2011.
Senior defensive specialist Courtney Abrahamovich received a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, an honor given to one player per team in the conference.
